Cisco Academy Evolution - How does it effect you.

Cisco are restructuring the Academy Program globally and moving to a new model which will see the end of the three tier model we are currently using.  From July 31st 2012 each current local academy will become known as simply a Cisco Academy.  Each Cisco Academy will require a contract directly with Cisco and a support contract with an ASC.  ASC or Academy Support Centers will provide access to the curriculum and support in a similar way to the way regional academies do now.  There will be only 10 - 12 ASCs in the UK and as we understand it you will be able to choose any regardless of location.  Conveniently at Leeds all our current contracts with Local Academies end 31 July 2012.  The price of the annual contract with an ASC will be fixed by Cisco, so your choice of ASC comes down to the quality of service you receive for your money!

In order to have instructors trained they will need to attend training at any ITC.  There will be  8 -10 ITC or Instructor Training Centers in the UK and they will charge a daily rate for the training.  Again you have the freedom to use any ITC.  An institution could be both an ASC and an ITC.  Again the daily rate will be fixed by Cisco, so choice is again down to the quality of training provided.

We are in the process of applying to become both an ITC and ASC.  We should know by March if we are successful.  Clearly with 60 odd existing regional academies potentially applying for one or both roles we may face some stiff competition.  We would like to think given our record over the last 12 years that we have a strong chance.  As you know we pride ourselves on our industry focus and all our instructors have industry experience and the relevant industry certification.  Having our own dedicated "Network Academy" team who focus only on industry certifications should also count for us when compared to other institutions for which the academy program is only a part time job within a larger remit.

If we are successful this could create opportunities for our local academies as we would be able to support and train on the CCNA Security and CCNP curricula too.     More details...
